CONSTRUCTION Curlew is moulded to Lloyds' requirements under their individual supervision and is issued with their Hull Construction Certificate. The hull is constructed of chopped strand mat and woven rovings. The bottom resin is clear and is coated with epoxy paint before antifouling. The deck has a 1/2" balsa sandwich with marine ply inserts and is stiffened in way of the mast by moulded-in mahogany beams.
BALLAST

Bilge keel boat
The main ballast, which forms part of the centre keel, and the bilge keels are iron castings bolted on externally.

Centreboard boat
The iron ballast keel, with a slot for the centreboard, is bolted on externally.

CENTREBOARD This is a 3/4" thick galvanised steel plate, pivotted in the ballast keel where it cannot leak and prevented from 'clonking' by nylotron pads. It is hoisted by a wire-and-rope drum winch operated from the cockpit.<BR>
The glassfibre centreboard case is moulded into the hull and is all below the cabin sole except for a small trunk under the companionway steps.
